☆ This show was inspired by my recent diagnosis of a genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. The Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) are a group of thirteen heritable connective tissue disorders. This diagnosis brought me immeasurable relief and while my life had always revolved around this condition, I could now intentionally center it in my life.
☆ There is a phrase in the medical field - if you hear hoofbeats, think of a horse, not a zebra - meaning to looks for the more obvious explanations before considering outliers. Since EDS is so difficult to diagnose, the symbol became the zebra. A group of zebras is called a dazzle, making Together We Dazzle the motto of the Ehlers-Danlos Society.
☆ Since its inception in 2016, the Ehlers-Danlos Society has had an exponential impact on the community. Spreading awareness and raising funds are critical to helping people get diagnosed and receive proper care.
☆ We raise money by donating a percentage of all artwork sales and collecting ticket entries to our opening and closing receptions.
☆ We have held shows in 2023 and 2024 and are happily planning for our 2025 show!
